Across a Flattened Sea

I danced,
Across the wooden planks
Of your unruly, restless,
Complicated misunderstandings.

And placed myself within
The chemical bath;
Which caused the burning.

An underdeveloped photograph
Of your face; another of your hands;
The welcoming kiss of death.

I tried myself to understand
The poetry locked within your breath,
To comprehend one strand of your mind;
But it was not approachable.

Every leaf,
And petal,
Unpeeled.

Stripped down
To naked flesh;

A tease of what was to come;
The tornado and the bomb.
